 ANGLICAN DIOCESE OF CENTRAL ZIMBABWE GIANT STEP TOWARDS RENEWABLE ENERGY

 THE ST PATRICKS 157 KW SOLAR PLANT & 5 MW SOLAR PLANT

 In line with global trends on adaptation the Diocese took steps towards renewable energy investment starting with the 157 KW Solar plant that is for St Patricks domestic use. The Saving from paying power company is income for the Diocese/ Plant layout as below.

PHASE 2 IS THE 5 MW SOLAR PLANT

TEGES Solar is a company duly incorporated in accordance with the laws of Zimbabwe and registered as a Joint Venture Company (JV) between Exceeding Great (Private) Limited (60%), the for-profit arm of the Anglican Diocese of Central Zimbabwe, and Zimbabwean IPP developer, Tatanga Energy (Private) Limited(40%) and seeks to develop solar Plant at St. Patricks School.

In line with the Government development policy enshrined in the National Development Strategy (NDS) 1 blue print, the company is working on establishing a 5 MW solar PV power plant as well as requisite transmission infrastructure to connect the plant to the existing 33/0.4kV substation at Premier Crushers. The proposed Plant layout will occupy a footprint of about 10 ha to the north of St Patrick’s school in Gweru.

A Number of studies have been completed and the hired Consultancy Companies are finalizing the detailed feasibility report. Final touches are being put to the financial model that will indicate to the Diocese income estimates. The Current estimated investment is 5.9million USD where the Diocese will have to contribute its 60% capital share through either debt, Grants or any funding mechanism.

  1. Completion of feasibility studies and presentation of reports.
  2. Negotiation of Power Purchase Agreement;
  3. Negotiation of Transmission Agreement
  4. Finalization of financial Model,
  5. Financial Clouse
  6. Engagement of EPC Contractor

The Diocese still working on resourcing this pre-development Phase to support movement, trainings and engagements in all aspects to ensure project come to fruition. Once Financial Closure is hit then recruitment of workforce will start.
